Worker Struck and Killed at a Gas Station in East Raleigh
A man working underground at a gas station was struck and killed early Wednesday afternoon. 50-year-old Randy Wilson was reportedly hit by a car as he was emerging from a manhole at the Family Fare BP gas station at New Bern Avenue and Corporate Drive. The driver, 52-year-old Deborah Dunkley, had just finished fueling when she allegedly drove away from the pump and over the manhole where Wilson was working. Witnesses say that there were two orange cones marking the open manhole.
Dunkley left the scene but was stopped by police a short time after. It is not clear whether she was aware that she had hit Wilson. She was taken to the Wake County jail where she was later released on a $5,000 bond and is set to appear in court on Friday. Dunkley has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and with unsafe movement. Read more about this case at ABC 11.
