Teen Killed in Car Accident
Johnston County teen, Bryan Davis Gilmore was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, DWI and reckless driving for losing control and flipping the Ford Ranger he was driving, killing passenger William Lee Tippett shortly after 3am on February 16th. Gilmore and passenger Joseph Cole Brewer were taken to WakeMed and later released.
Highway Patrol concluded Gilmore, 17, was going approximately 85 mph in a 45 mph zone when the truck overturned. The teen was also charged with underage possession of a malt beverage and minor marijuana possession. Brewer, 16, of Clayton was charged with 11 counts of aid and abet underage possession of a malt beverage, underage purchase of a malt beverage and minor marijuana possession.
The night before the crash, the NC Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) Division ran an investigation and discovered the alcohol was produced by Carl Jerome Watson, 21, of Clayton. Watson was charged with 16 counts of aid and abet underage persons after buying more than 60 malt beverages.
