Sports Equipment Manufacturer STX Recalls Lacrosse Throat Protector
Do you or a loved one play lacrosse professionally, for school, or recreationally? If so, make sure you are aware of the latest product recall: STX, a manufacturer of sports equipment and apparel based in Baltimore, has recalled their Shield Throat Protector.
The recall, as announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements, comes after one report of the product breaking, resulting in injury to the player using it. The STX Shield Throat Protector, made in Taiwan, is designed to protect Lacrosse goalies from the ball hitting them in the throat. The product is black and has the letters “STX” engraved on the front outer surface.
The company says that about 4,000 products are affected, and that they were sold in specialty sporting stores and online from September 2013 through February 2014 for $20-$25. Though intended to protect players, the faulty products may break or crack when struck by a lacrosse ball, which may cause cuts, bruising or other injury to the goalie.
STX has asked all consumers to stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Players may return the product for a full refund, and may contact STX’s consumer contact toll-free at (888) 789-7894 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST M-F or online at www.stx.com for more information. No other STX products are affected by this recall.
