Rocky Mount Man Charged with Reckless Driving
An 18-year-old Bailey man was charged with reckless driving after causing a five-car wreck along Interstate 95 early Saturday morning.
The N.C. Highway Patrol said the accident happened at 8:44 a.m. as David Orlando Mendoza was traveling northbound in Nash County in his 2004 Dodge pickup truck near mile marker 133.5. Trooper M.L. Leonard said in a telephone interview that Mendoza fell asleep, ran off the left-hand side of the road, crossing the median and struck a truck traveling south.
The second vehicle was pulling a trailer, lost control and crossed back into the northbound lanes, Leonard said. The trailer came loose and its debris hit three other vehicles, he said.
No one was seriously injured, but Leonard said a female driver was taken to Nash General Hospital for minor injuries.
Leonard said alcohol, speed and drugs were not factors for the wreck. Mendoza was charged with careless and reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
