North Carolina Fatality Rates on the Roads
The North Carolina DOT reported on the number of fatalities and personal injuries in Wake County, Durham County as well as many other counties throughout the state of North Carolina. The numbers are based on statewide fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled per year. As of September 30, 2010 there have been 164,722 reported car accidents per 100 million vehicle miles traveled throughout the state with 949 deaths and 78,752 injuries per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. In Cary, Raleigh and the rest of Wake County, 18,366 car accidents have been reported per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. Out of those, 58 have reported fatalities and 6,555 reported personal injuries, again, this is per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. As of this report, the injury rate in Wake County, which includes Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville, and Apex, stood at 93.13. It is estimated that there are over 200 million vehicles in America each driving approximately between 12,500 and 15,000 miles a year. That translates into trillions of vehicle miles traveled per year.
