Nine Injured As School Bus, Tractor-Trailer Collide in Johnston County
Early this morning, officials say a Johnston County wreck involving a middle school bus and a tractor-trailer sent nine people to the hospital – many of whom were students.
According to reports, the wreck happened shortly after 7 am on U.S. Highway 70, right near the Uzzle Industrial Drive in the town of Wilson’s Mills. Sources say the bus was carrying a dozen students en route to Smithfield Middle School when the collision occurred. As a result of the wreck, seven of those students, the driver of the school bus and the driver of the tractor-trailer were transported to local hospitals. The students treated were reported to suffer minor injuries, though the information about the injuries of the tractor-trailer driver and school bus driver has not been released.
It’s always heartbreaking to see wrecks like these occur. We urge you to execute extreme caution when driving along the highway at all times, especially during busy commute hours. While you are in control of your own actions on the road, it can be hard to anticipate the actions of others – and, sometimes, the unexpected can happen.
