Fatal Crash Statistics Released
The NC Department of Transportation released fatal crash statistics on December 20, 2011. The report included data up to November 30, 2011. There were 1,014 reported fatal crashes for the year, resulting in 1,096 fatalities which is less than the 1,224 fatalities in 2010 and 1,257 in 2009. Of those, alcohol played a factor in 314 crashes. Motorcycles were involved in 124 of the crashes leading to 130 fatalities. The five year average according to the report is 1,354 fatal crashes per year in North Carolina. Read more here.
