Drunk Driver Kills Toddler In Head-On Crash
A head-on collision involving alcohol has left a child dead and the drivers of both vehicles seriously injured. At 10:30 p.m. on Friday night a Dodge Charger driven by Ira Evans crossed into oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 1 in Middleburg, striking a Mercedes Benz driven by Derrick Burchette with his daughter in the car.
The collision ran both vehicles off the road, with the Mercedes overturning and trapping the toddler in her car seat. All three were transported to area hospitals for treatment, but the toddler, Jaleah Griffin, passed away from her injuries.
Authorities plan to charge Evans following their investigation, and they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
