Crossing Guard Struck, Killed By Vehicle
A retired public works man who had been a crossing guard for 2.5 years at an Iredell County middle school was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday.
Classes had been dismissed for the day, and 59-year-old Frank Booth was hit right after 3pm. Booth was flown to a hospital but passed away while there. The driver who struck him was 23-year-old Sarah McMinn. Booth was well-liked by students and parents alike, and school principal Dr. Boen Nutting had this to say:
“Frank was a big man with a big smile with a big heart and he made an impression everywhere he went.”
Incidents involving people working on roads have been common in recent months, including a slain NC DOT worker in a dump accident. These jobs come with an inherent risk of personal injury and wrongful death.
The district attorney has not yet determined if charges will be filed in the case.
