Crabtree Valley Traffic
Traffic around Crabtree Valley Mall can be a headache. Everyday traffic volume totals 40,000 to 70,000 vehicles that travel the mall area of Glenwood Avenue. The city recognizes this area as being problematic, and the Raleigh City Council is meeting to discuss solution. One option they are discussing involves limiting retail development in the area because retail is typically the biggest generator for traffic.
What does this mean for drivers? Be careful!
An motor vehicle accident analysis was done for intersections around the mall from the beginning of 2007 to the end of 2009, and it found that there were 597 accidents within 150 feet of major intersections. Continued development has caused traffic to become even more troublesome today.
Here are a few tips for driving in heavy traffic:
- Slow down.
- Keep extra distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you so you are prepared for sudden stops.
- Avoid distractions such as cell phones or playing with the radio/ipods.
- Keep calm and do not lose your temper.
- Use turn signals to let other drivers know your intentions.
Accidents happen and are sometimes out of your control, but driving with extra precaution in areas with a large amount of traffic could help prevent one.
