Construction Zone Accidents
According to AAA Carolinas the number of deaths in construction zones has risen by almost 50% since 1997.
“Nationally, about 1,100 people lose their lives every year in work zones, an average of three deaths per day. Nearly 50,000 people are injured, or one every nine minutes of so.”
According to the NC DOT, Wake County, including Raleigh and Cary, ranked number 1 for the number of crashes that occurred in work zones in 2009 with a total of 314. Out of the 2,125 incidents statewide in 2009, 11 involved fatalities with 28% occurring on the interstate.
