Cary Teen Charged In Tragic Fatal Car Wreck

A teenage driver in a fatal car accident near Panther Creek High School has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, Police reported on Thursday.

Spencer Saunders, 16, a sophomore at Panther Creek High School, was driving two siblings, Laura Yost, 15, and Ryan Yost, 16, to school last Tuesday morning, September 16th, when the collision occurred. Both Laura and Ryan were taken to Duke University Hospital following the crash with injuries, Laura’s more serious than Ryan’s. Laura underwent surgery for her injuries that same day.

Laura was riding in the back passenger-side seat of Saunders’ Chevrolet Trail Blazer when Saunders took a left hand turn at the intersection of NC Highway 55 and McCrimmon Parkway and the vehicle struck by a dump truck on the passenger side. Accident reports show that Saunders rushed through a safety light and failed to yield the right of way to the dump truck. Both Saunders and the driver of the truck, Jerry Middleton, 64, of Creedmoor, were uninjured.

The Law Offices of D. Hardison Wood would like to express their sincere condolences to the Yost family over the loss of Laura, and extend our best wishes for a fast recovery for Ryan. Memorial services for Laura are scheduled for Saturday, September 27th at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary.
