Car Chase Leads To State Trooper Fatality
A car chase that began with a robbery ended with the death of Nash Country state trooper Bobby Gene DeMuth Jr. when he was fatally struck by the speeding vehicle. Nash was deploying stop sticks to puncture the tires of the speeding vehicle when he was struck.
The driver of the vehicle, Christopher McCoy Rogers, has been charged with murder in the case. State flags were flown at half mast during the funeral for officer DeMuth, and hundreds of law enforcement officers were in attendance. Law enforcement remains one of the most dangerous professions in the country, although fatal car accidents are more rare than some other work environment hazards for police.
The officer leaves behind a wife and an 8-year-old son.
