August the Deadliest Month on the Roads
According to a NHTSA report there are more American deaths related to car crashes in the month of August than any other time of the year. August has a fatality rate of 1.09 per 100 million miles traveled as compared to September with a rate of 1.08 and July which has a rate of 1.04.
The deadliest days across the United States appears to be on the weekends while the least is Tuesday. According to the report the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says 32% of fatalities related to car crashes happen between 3pm and 9 pm. NHTSA claims it is between 6 pm and 8:59pm. With vacationers and daily commuters sharing the road in August and September it does seem to make sense that the rates of car crashes and therefore serious injuries and deaths rises.
